Oilers announce Turtle Island logo collection in collaboration with Edmonton designer Lance Cardinal

New logo represents Indigenous culture and values, will be featured on Oilers merchandise and initiatives

The Edmonton Oilers have announced a new logo collection, the Turtle Island Logo Collection, that celebrates Indigenous culture and values. The logo was created in collaboration with Edmonton designer and artist Lance Cardinal of Bigstone Cree First Nations.

The Turtle Island Logo Collection features a turtle, which is a sacred symbol in many Indigenous cultures. The turtle represents wisdom, strength, and longevity. The logo also includes the words "Turtle Island" in Cree syllabics. Turtle Island is the name that many Indigenous peoples use for North America.

The Oilers will wear the Turtle Island logo on their jerseys during select home games throughout the season. The logo will also be featured on Oilers merchandise, including hoodies, sweatshirts, and t-shirts. The Oilers will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Turtle Island merchandise to Indigenous charities.

"We are proud to partner with Lance Cardinal on this important initiative," said Oilers President Ken Holland. "The Turtle Island Logo Collection is a beautiful and meaningful way to celebrate Indigenous culture and values. We hope that this logo will help to raise awareness of the important contributions that Indigenous peoples have made to our community and to our country."

"I am honored to have the opportunity to work with the Oilers on this project," said Cardinal. "The Turtle Island Logo Collection is a powerful symbol of Indigenous pride and resilience. I hope that this logo will inspire Indigenous youth and help to build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities."

The Oilers will unveil the Turtle Island Logo Collection at a special event on September 27th at Rogers Place. The event will feature a performance by Cardinal and a panel discussion on the importance of Indigenous representation in sports.
